Chrissi Island (or Gaidouronisi - "donkey island")is an uninhabited Greek island in the southern Crete and close enough to Ierapetra city.
Chrissi in Greek means Golden and that name is based on the golden sand on the island. It is a popular destination for a daily trip by the Tourist in Crete. In summer season is luckily to find more than one itinerary to Chrissi as there are many boats offering their services.
On the island there are not high hills as the highest point on Chrissi in 31m above the sea-level and it is called Kefala. There is a chapel of Saint Nicholas (the protector of the sailors for the Greeks) on the western part of the island and it is estimated to date the 13th century. You can find some Minoan ruins on this island to! It is a great place for relaxation, exploring a salt pan, an old port, visit the lighthouse and a roman cemetery. The best thing to do on the island is to enjoy the sun and the green-blue sea.

There is no fresh drinking water on the island. The majority of trees have an average age of 200 years and average height of up to 7 metres, some of the trees are up to 300 years old and 10 metres tall.
